Green Investment Group (GIG) has acquired the 42MW Kisielice wind farm, its first investment in Poland.
Macquarie-owned GIG purchased the asset, located in Warmiab, Masurian Voivodeship, from Impax New Energy Holdings Cooperatief, an entity owned by Impax Asset Management’s NEF2 fund.
The wind farm, which has been operational since 2014, consists of 21 Enercon E-82 turbines.
GIG Europe head Edward Northam said: “As we pursue our mission to accelerate the transition to a greener global economy, it is essential that GIG continues to seek out opportunities in new and growing markets.
“Poland has significant potential for renewable energy and we are excited to have taken our first steps into this market.”
Onshore wind is currently Poland’s largest renewable energy source, totalling 5.7GW of installed capacity.
The country held its first auction for onshore wind in November 2018, while a second auction for around 2.5GW is anticipated for this year.
As part of its European expansion, GIG recently acquired the Hornamossen wind farm in Sweden and also announced plans to acquire a 40% stake in the East Anglia 1 offshore wind farm on the UK coast.
