MidAmerican Energy has gained regulatory approval from the Iowa Utilities Board for its proposed 2GW Wind XI project.
The power provider said it’s still finalizing sites for the $3.6 billion development, which will have 1000 turbines and is expected to be placed in service between 2017 and 2019.
In June, Vestas entered into a conditional agreement with MidAmerican Energy to supply up to 1000 of its V110 2MW turbines to the massive project.
“This is an exciting day for our customers, the state of Iowa and MidAmerican Energy,” the company’s chief executive Bill Fehrman said. “We thank the board for its support and for moving quickly to deliver this ruling.”
