Jones Bros completes first pour at Sanquhar 2

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has completed the first turbine foundation pour at CWP Energy’s 308MW Sanquhar 2 wind farm in south west Scotland.

The contractor is leading construction of the £400m scheme, which will feature 44 turbines across Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire.

Once operational in 2027, the project is expected to supply enough electricity to power more than 335,000 homes annually.

Sanquhar 2 is led by CWP Energy and will be the UK’s fourth largest wind farm.

Jones Bros said it carried out the milestone pour with support from Cambrian, using two on-site batching plants to reduce vehicle movements and streamline programme delivery.

Project manager Jonathan Maitland said: “Completing the first pour is always a special milestone on wind farm schemes. Our highly skilled team has worked tirelessly and efficiently to reach this stage of the project, and we look forward to making further progress in the coming weeks and months.”

Further works include access tracks, crane hardstandings for turbine erection and two substation platforms.

Jones Bros contracts director Garod Evans said: “It’s another significant renewable energy scheme for our talented Scottish team, and one we are enjoying working on. Current live wind farm projects include Benbrack, North Kyle, and Windy Standard III.”

CWP Energy managing director Rod Wood said: “This milestone represents far more than the initial stages of construction; it is a pivotal moment in advancing a project that will play a key role in the UK’s renewable energy future.”
