Vestas has received an order worth 46MW from Naturgy for a repowering project in Spain.
Naturgy is transforming the Somozas wind farm, replacing the 81 existing turbines with nine new units from Vestas.
The order for seven Vestas V150-6.0MW turbines and two V110-2.2MW units will enable the wind farm to run more efficiently and with less visual impact.
The company has begun work on dismantling the existing turbines at the facility, which has a history spanning more than 25 years.
The new configuration will slightly reduce installed capacity to 46.4MW instead of the initial 49.6MW, but will increase annual clean energy production to 168GWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 48,000 homes.
A substantial part of the materials from the dismantling will be recycled and recovered.
The €67m repowering project is financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through the circular repowering programme managed by IDEA.
Naturgy is developing three repowering projects in Galicia, which will involve the elimination of 147 wind turbines, from 172 machines to just 25.
The order placed with Vestas for the Somozas project includes a 10-year service agreement.
Turbine delivery is expected by the fourth quarter of 2025 and commissioning is planned for the second quarter of 2026.
