Nordex gets Brazil nod for 5MW model

Nordex toasts 350MW Oklahoma order

Nordex has obtained the accreditation in Brazil for the N163/5MW wind turbine model from National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).

Wind farm developers in Brazil will be able to purchase N163/5.X wind turbines using the credit line known as FINAME, as well as other similar financing lines that use the BNDES accreditation system to define local content.

To obtain the accreditation Nordex developed, in partnership with its local suppliers, dozens of components that will be manufactured with certain levels of national material and Brazilian labour, which also are already accredited by BNDES.

With accredited local components, Nordex will produce the N163/5.X nacelles and hubs at its factory in the state of Bahia, with blades manufactured by a Brazilian supplier and concrete towers to be produced in units strategically positioned close to the wind farms.

By fulfilling the requirements of local content and manufacturing according to BNDES rules, Nordex said this “reinforces its long-term commitment to Brazil” and confirms the entry of the N163/5.X model into the Brazilian market as a “reliable and very competitive” option for its local and global customers.

This is the fourth wind turbine model made by Nordex to be accredited by BNDES for the FINAME credit line, after models AW116, AW125 and AW132.

Since 2012, Nordex Group has installed more than 700 wind turbines in in Brazil, with an installed capacity of 2.2GW, with another 1.1GW already contracted or under production and construction.
