Germany’s Nordex ramped up turbine installations in its home market by 52% last year after experiencing strong demand for efficient units suitable for light wind conditions. It has also forecast a record number of installations in 2017.
Total installations in 2016 totaled 267 machines, up from 176 in the previous year. Installed capacity climbed by an even greater 58% to 691MW as the generation potential of individual turbines rose.
Nordex said it benefited from its “strong position” in efficient turbines, which prompted more than 40% of last year’s installations to occur in the four southern German states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
“This year we will achieve a new installation record thanks to the strong order intake in 2016,” the head of Nordex’s German business, Jörg Hempel, said in a statement. Last year, the company’s German order intake rose by 28% to €1.17 billion.
