Nordex Group has secured a deal to supply 67 turbines for the 300MW El Sauz onshore wind farm in the US state of Texas.
The 4.5MW turbines are due to be installed in summer 2022, with the agreement also including a premium service contract for the machines covering a period of five years, Nordex said.
The El Sauz project, located in the south of Texas near Raymondville, has been developed by Apex Clean Energy and will be owned by JERA Americas, the US subsidiary of energy company JERA.
JERA was created as alliance between Tokyo Electric Power Group and the Chubu Electric Power Group and currently provides 30% of the electricity in Japan.
JERA Americas chief executive Steven Winn said: “We are looking to accelerate the transformation of our energy supply to more sustainable forms of energy and this project marks the beginning of what we plan to be a substantial and growing commitment to renewables in this state and across the country.”
Nordex chief strategy officer Patxi Landa said: “We are delighted to be working with JERA Americas on El Sauz.
“We look forward to a successful collaboration on this project and we are particularly pleased, that JERA has opted for our technology in their first project in the US market.”
Nordex said it currently has installed more than 37GW of wind energy capacity in over 40 markets.
The company added that its product portfolio is focused on onshore turbines in the 4 to 6.XMW class, which are tailor-made for the market requirements of countries with limited space and regions with limited grid capacity.
