Nordex will supply its 5MW onshore wind turbines for a 40MW wind project in Finland.
The seven Nordex N163/5.X wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 5.7MW, are expected to be in operation on the west coast of Finland by summer 2022.
VSB is developing the Juurakko wind farm, located in the northern Ostrobothnia region of Finland near the town of Kalajoki.
The Nordex N163/5.X turbines will be installed some 7km from the Gulf of Bothnia coastline.
“Finland aims to be climate neutral by 2035. An ambitious target that we will actively help to achieve by increasing wind energy. ‘Juurakko’ is our first Finnish wind farm and part of this mission,” said Seppo Tallgren, VSB country manager.
Construction of the 40MW wind farm will start in spring 2021.
Infrastructure and foundations are to be completed by autumn of this year. After a winter break, construction of the wind turbines will begin in March 2022.
Nordex will be responsible for full servicing of the turbines for a period of 20 years.
The N163/5.X turbine model is specifically designed for sites with lower wind speeds and can be operated in different power modes within the 5MW range.
The average annual wind speed at the wind farm site is just over seven metres per second.
VSB is developing a further 400MW of capacity.
