Nordex has signed an agreement with an unnamed utility for the supply and delivery of turbines for a 350MW wind project in Oklahoma, US.
The German company will supply 74 of its N149/4.0-4.5 model, making it the first deal in the US market for the Delta4000 platform.
The turbines, which will range between 4MW and 4.8MW in output, will be delivered and installed in spring 2020.
A premium service agreement with a term of five years is also included in the contract.
Nordex group chief sales officer Patxi Landa said: “With the N149/4.0-4.5, our highly efficient turbine is now being deployed for the first time in the US.
“It is especially designed for regions with moderate wind, which makes it the ideal choice for many potential project sites in the US.”
Since launching the N149/4.0-4.5 of the Delta4000 series, Nordex Group has received orders totalling more than 1.4GW for the model.
Meanwhile, Nordex said low construction figures and, as a result a decrease in sales in the company’s project’s business segment led to a drop in EBITDA in the first quarter of 2019.
Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation was €3.3m in the first three months of the year, down from €20m last year.
Nordex blamed the installation schedules of its customers, adding this reflects a pattern assumed by the company for its business performance in 2019, with weaker sales in the first half of the year and significantly higher sales in the second half.
It installed a total of 84 turbines in nine countries with a combined output of 260.9MW in the first three months of the year, down from 522.9MW last year.
Turbine production is up in order to meet the expected second half of the year demand to 698MW from 347MW in 2018.
Sales in the projects business fell by 24% to €312.3m from €409.6m.
However, sales in the service unit grew 11% to €87.4m from €78.8m.
Orders were 1035.1MW in Q1, worth €810.2m, in the projects business. This was up slightly on the 1007.5MW in 2018.
Some 44% of the order intake was in Latin America, with 41% in Europe and 15% in the rest of the world.
Nordex’s total order book stood at €4.4bn in the projects unit and €2.2bn in the service segment, up from €2.7bn and €1.9bn, respectively, in 2018.
