Nuveen has acquired three clean energy assets in Italy through its power producer Verdian as part of its strategy to develop 3GW of renewable capacity in southern Europe.
The company said Verdian bought an onshore wind portfolio of up to 493.2MW with 144MW of integrated storage from Gruppo Hope across six projects in Latium, Apulia and Tuscany.
It added that the deal strengthens Verdian’s scale in Italy and broadens its mix of wind, solar and energy storage technologies.
Nuveen also acquired three battery projects totalling 280MW, including a 90MW standalone system in Campania that will be an eight-hour duration BESS once built.
According to the company, the other two assets involve the rights to fully permitted BESS projects in Puglia with a combined capacity of 190MW.
“We are delighted with the progress achieved this year through our Clean Energy Strategy, marked by a series of landmark transactions in Italy that reflect both the momentum of our investment thesis and our unwavering commitment to advancing renewable energy development across Southern Europe,” said Francesco Cacciabue, global head of clean energy investment at Nuveen Infrastructure.
“These milestones demonstrate how we are scaling clean energy solutions that strengthen system resilience, enhance grid flexibility and support the integration of renewable technologies at scale.”
