Renewables developer PNE is to provide electricity from the Papenrode wind farm in Germany to green energy provider LichtBlick under a power purchase agreement.
PNE said the deal, which is the first such PPA the company has agreed, will provide the project with a stable revenue stream after the expiry of subsidies under the Renewable Energy Sources Act at the end of 2020.
The company said every kilowatt-hour generated by the 13MW project’s 10 turbines will go to LichtBlick from 1 January 2021.
PNE chief executive Markus Lesser said: “With the conclusion of this PPA, we are taking a step that is still little known in Germany.
“At the same time, we offer a sensible opportunity for further economic operation of wind farm projects.
“Since we already know the possibilities and advantages of such agreements from other markets, we can contribute this experience.
“We would also be pleased to make this experience available to other operators within the framework of a cooperative partnership.”
