German partnership eyes 200MW wind buildout

Qualitas Energy has acquired three wind farms in Germany through its local subsidiary as part of efforts to expand its portfolio to 6GW within two years.

The sites have a total output of 21MW and have 11 turbines between them.

Qualitas Energy will repower the turbines in order to “significantly increase” the output across all three facilities, which are located in Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

The acquisition of the wind farms is part of the investment strategy of Q-Energy Fund V.

The first closing of this vehicle reached over €1.1bn and its size is expected to exceed €1.6bn, making it one of Europe’s largest renewable energy funds.

One of the wind farms is Dornstedt 2, in the municipality of Teutschenthal in the Saalekreis district of Saxony-Anhalt.

The wind farm features three 2MW turbines.

The Quenstedt 2 development, which has the same capacity, is in Arnstein in the Mansfeld-Südharz district.

The third site is located just a few kilometres to the south in Heldrungen in the Kyffhäuser district of Thuringia.

This asset consists of five wind turbines with an output of 1.8MW each.

Qualitas Energy Deutschland GmbH director of investment Niklas Hinz said: “We are facing a significant task with the energy transition.

“Germany has been a major driver of wind energy and it is now up to us to successfully operate or modernize the wind farms to ensure the success of the energy transition.

“With this vision, we will continue to acquire repowering and greenfield projects in the future to bring them to success in close cooperation with residents and communities.”
