US developer Project Resources Corporation (PRC) has unveiled an early stage project in North Dakota.
The maximum capacity of the Red Butte wind farm would be up to 200MW, however, final output will depend on the turbines selected for the project, said PRC in a filing to the state Public Service Commission.
The developer is working to identify potential offtakers for the output.
The project will help meet the national 25% by 2025 renewable energy initiative and the significant regional need for clean energy, said PRC.
The proponent is considering three interconnection points for an 11- to 17-mile 230kV transmission line from the project substation to different grid operators, Great River Energy, Basin Electric Power Cooperative or the Midcontinent Independent System Operator.
The project, located in Oliver County, has begun studies with both the MISO and the Southwest Power Pool for potential interconnection.
Initial environmental studies are underway. The proponent is targeting a late 2018 in-service date for the Red Butte scheme.
