Ontario regulators are reviewing the 100MW North Kent 1 wind project planned by Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy.
The joint venture partners expect to erect 36 Siemens SWT-3.2MW-113 turbines in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent in southwest Ontario, according to regulatory filings.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has posted a renewable energy approval application for public review. Comments may be submitted through 18 March.
The project holds a 20-year feed-in tariff power purchase agreement with the provincial Independent Electricity System Operator.
Construction is slated to begin this year with commercial operation expected to start in late 2017.
Samsung and Pattern hope to build a second phase at the site and have bid the 100MW North Kent 2 project into Ontario’s 565MW large renewable procurement program. The province expects to select the winners in March.
North Kent 1 is the final project in Samsung’s 1369MW Green Energy Investment Agreement portfolio in Ontario, which includes 1069MW of wind projects and 300MW of solar.
The province recently approved the developer’s 100MW Belle River FiT scheme. Operation is expected to start in summer 2017.
