Repsol Ibereolica Renovables Chile has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output from its 180MW Atacama wind power project.
The PPA, with an unnamed offtaker, has a 14-year term and guarantees “double-digit profitability” said the company, which is jointly owned by Repsol and the Ibereolica Renovables.
The Atacama wind farm will begin commercial operation in the second half of 2022.
The project is located in the Chilean municipality of Freirina, in the province of Huasco and the region of Atacama.
The Atacama wind farm is the second project the joint venture is developing in Chile, after the 189MW Cabo Leones 3 wind farm.
The joint venture, created in July 2020, has a portfolio of assets in operation, construction, or advanced development of more than 1600MW in Chile, to 2025, with the possibility of exceeding 2600 MW by 2030.
Cabo Leones 3, also located in the Atacama region, is divided into two phases.
The first 79MW phase entered into commercial operation last December and the second 110MW phase will begin to supply electricity commercially in the second quarter of 2021.
