RWE has successfully closed a programme that offered citizens the opportunity to invest in the construction of a new onshore wind farm in Puglia, Italy.
The new San Severo plant, located in the municipality of the same name in the province of Foggia, with a total capacity of 54MW will be able to supply green energy to 55,000 Italian households.
Construction is progressing at full speed and the site is expected to enter into operation by the end of December 2024.
The investment volume of the project is approximately €92m.
During a first phase of the campaign, priority was given to residents of the Province of Foggia and the Puglia Region.
On 30 September, the initiative was opened to the entire national territory and, in less than eight hours, a volume of investments equal to twice the minimum target set was reached, thanks to the participation of 165 investors, RWE said.
Supporters of the campaign will receive a direct financial benefit for a duration of 24 months with returns guaranteed by RWE, respectively of 9% gross per year for residents in the Province of Foggia and 8% gross per year for residents in the rest of Italy.
Country chair RWE Renewables Italia Paolo Raia said: “We thank all those who believed in this initiative.
“Their participation has a value that goes far beyond the economic aspects and more generally represents an important opportunity to actively support the development of energy from renewable sources and their crucial role in the energy transition and the decarbonization process of our country.”
The campaign was created on the platform of Ener2Crowd, a partner chosen by RWE as a provider of services related to the financing process and management of sustainable investments.
