RWE has extended its “Let’s Create Energy – Together for the Energy Transition in Italy” campaign to all Italians, offering citizens the opportunity to invest in the construction of a 54MW onshore wind farm in San Severo, in the province of Foggia.
By supporting the campaign, citizens will be able to receive a direct financial benefit and become actors in the energy transition by supporting the development of green energy and the country’s decarbonisation process, said the company.
The new San Severo plant, located in the municipality of the same name in the province of Foggia, will be able to supply green energy to 55,000 Italian households.
Construction is progressing at full speed and the array is expected to enter into operation by the end of December 2024. The investment volume of the project is approximately €92m.
During the initial phase of the campaign, priority was offered to the residents of the Puglia Region to share in the first instance with the local communities the environmental and economic benefits that derive from the presence of a new renewable plant in their territory.
“Through this initiative, we intend to actively involve Italian citizens in the role of promoters and protagonists of the energy transition and the country’s decarbonization process,” said RWE Renewables Italia country chair Paolo Raia.
“Offering them the opportunity to benefit directly from wind energy, through their investments, is perfectly aligned with our sustainability goals.”
From 30 September until 31 December, all residents in Italy will now have the opportunity to support the initiative of participatory ethical finance, through the Ener2Crowd website and app, investing from €250 up to a maximum of €5000, with returns of 8% gross per year for a duration of 24 months.
To get the initiative off the ground, it is necessary to raise a total investment volume of €100,000. The maximum investment ceiling is €200,000.
RWE has chosen Ener2Crowd as the provider of services related to the financing process and easy management of sustainable investments through its platform, one of the first authorized by CONSOB (Italian Authority for the Supervision of Financial Markets).
The company currently operates 15 onshore wind farms (including Morcone, pictured) in Italy with an installed capacity of around 500MW in the country.
With its onshore fleet, RWE supplies around 400,000 Italian households with green electricity every year.
Following the entry into operation of the San Severo and Mondonuovo projects in Puglia, the developer will produce enough electricity from onshore wind to provide green energy to more than 500,000 households in Italy.
