RWE has cut the ribbon on its 21-turbine Konigshovener Hohe wind farm in Germany following a two-year build.
The utility teamed up with the city of Bedburg to realise the €110m project, which went into full operation at the tail-end of 2015.
Senvion provided 3.2MW turbines to the 67MW wind farm.
Managing director Kai Frobose said: “The Senvion 3.2M114 provides optimum yield for sites with medium wind speeds, it therefore perfectly fits the site and will profitably and reliably reach peak values of more than 3000 full load hours. This project shows: Wind energy is competitive – anywhere in Germany.”
The project is located on reclaimed land on the former Garzweiler opencast mine. Tip heights stretch to 200 metres.
RWE chief executive Peter Terium said: “We are taking the energy transition forward with projects like Königshovener Höhe.”
