RWE has commissioned its repowered Lasbek wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein after a one-year construction period.
The company said four new turbines with 22.8MW replace six older units totalling 10.8MW.
RWE added that the upgraded site can now supply an estimated 18,000 households.
The surrounding municipalities are set to receive up to €124,000 per year from operations, which RWE stated is around €100,000 more than before.
RWE is providing rotor blades from one old turbine to the BladeReUse research project for reuse in motorway noise barriers.
Other components will be stored as spare parts for the company’s fleet.
“I am delighted we have commissioned Lasbek wind farm! We have given the farm a new lease of life in the same location with fewer turbines but five times the electricity generation capacity. Repowering offers enormous potential.” said RWE Renewables Europe & Australia chief executive Katja Wunschel.
