RWE has started construction of the 63MW Golticlay onshore wind farm in Caithness, Scotland.
The 11-turbine project, located 5km northwest of Lybster, is expected to enter full operation by the end of 2026.
Golticlay will feature Nordex N149/5.7 units with 180-metre tip heights and will deliver enough power for approximately 84,000 homes annually, according to RWE.
The German developer has appointed Farrans as lead civil contractor and Nordex to supply the Delta4000-series turbines via the port of Wick.
RWE said it is working with regional suppliers including Alan Gow Groundworks, which expects to employ 25 people during its works.
“This is an exciting moment as work begins on the Golticlay onshore wind farm, a project that underscores our commitment to Scotland’s renewable energy sector,” said Victoria Allen, RWE’s head of onshore development, Scotland.
“Golticlay will not only generate clean, home-grown power but also deliver economic benefits at a regional level.”
The development joins RWE’s Enoch Hill, Camster II and Strathy Wood projects currently under construction in Scotland.
Together, the four wind farms will deliver a combined capacity of 231MW, the company said.
