Siemens Gamesa has launched an investigation after a turbine rotor fell to the ground at the 71MW Delta 1 wind farm in Brazil.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 2 February at the project in Parnaiba, a spokeswoman for the manufacturer said.
“There were no injuries and a safety zone around the turbine has been established.
“The wind park is under an operation and maintenance service contract with Siemens Gamesa,” she added.
“A full investigation is underway to determine the root cause of this incident.”
Footage broadcast on the Noticia da Manha TV station showed the extent of the damage.
The Delta 1 wind farm comprises 2MW G97 turbines from the former Gamesa fleet.
The project forms part of around 570MW of wind capacity operated by Omega in the same region, comprising seven projects.
Delta 1 started operations in 2014 and is the oldest wind farm in the complex, and the only one with Gamesa machines. The other wind farms came online between 2016 and 2019 using GE turbines.
