Southern Power’s 299MW Kay wind facility in Kay County in Oklahoma is fully operational.
The company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, said the project consists of 130 Siemens wind turbines.
Southern Power has also entered into an agreement to acquire the 150MW Grant wind farm in Grant County, Oklahoma – upon completion of construction, which is expected to be in 2016.
The facility is expected to use 66 Siemens units.
The electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated by the facility will be sold under 20-year power purchase agreements to Westar Energy (199MW) in Kansas and Grand River Dam Authority (100MW) in Oklahoma.
Apex Clean Energy developed and will operate and maintain the facility.
Blattner Energy served as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
Southern Power president and chief executive officer Oscar Harper said: “The completion of Kay Wind – Southern Power’s first wind project – marks an important milestone for our company.”
