Southern Company has acquired the 147MW Grant Plains Wind development in Oklahoma from Apex Clean Energy for an undisclosed sum.
It is the third deal involving the two companies following the purchase by Southern Company of Apex’s nearby 150MW Grant Wind and 299MW Kay Wind projects.
Grant Plains Wind will comprise 64 Siemens turbines and is expected to reach commercial operations in December, the companies said.
Siemens confirmed that it will provide the project with its SWT-2.3-108 turbines, which have a rotor diameter of 108 meters and a hub height of 80 meters.
Apex is managing the wind farm’s construction and will continue to provide asset management services on behalf of Southern Company, which purchased the development via subsidiary Southern Power.
