Southern Power has acquired the 43MW Passadumkeag wind farm in Maine from Houston developer Quantum Utility Generation.
The 13-turbine project is the Atlanta utility’s first in the US state and is expected to start operating shortly.
Most of its power and renewable energy credits will be sold under a 15-year power purchase agreement to Eversource Energy, with Southern retaining a small percentage.
The utility owns more than 2GW of renewable energy projects, including 27 solar, wind and biomass plants in operation or under construction.
“Southern Power’s acquisition of Passadumkeag Windpark extends our national presence to 10 states and further solidifies our position as America’s premier wholesale energy partner,” said Southern Power chief executive Buzz Miller.
“This exciting project adds to a dynamic renewable energy portfolio that is delivering clean, safe, reliable and affordable generation to wholesale customers across the country.”
