US utility Southern Power Company (SPC) has stepped in to buy a 36MW wind farm in Maine after SunEdison cancelled a deal with the seller.
SPC subsidiary Southern Renewable Energy is buying all of Quantum Energy Partners’ interest in the Passadumkeag Mountain scheme, located 30 miles northeast of Bangor.
The parties have asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve the deal by 11 April 2016. Financial terms were not disclosed.
FERC approved the SunEdison purchase in November 2015. However Quantum told the regulator in February the sale was off.
Passadumkeag Mountain is expected to start commercial operations in April. The wind farm features 12 Vestas V112 turbines 3MW turbines and holds a 15-year power purchase agreement with Western Massachusetts Electric Company.
