The Spanish onshore wind industry is aiming to install 4600MW of new wind capacity by the end of 2020, according to trade body Asociacion Empresarial Eolica (AEE).
AEE president Rocio Sicre said: “The vision of the wind industry for the next few years is optimistic.
“Installation forecasts for wind power are approximately 2000MW a year.”
After several years of stagnating development, the Spanish wind sector closed 2018 with a cumulative installed capacity of 23.5GW, equal to 19% of Spain’s electricity consumption.
According to AEE 2019 is a key year for the relaunch of the wind sector in Spain, mainly due to the execution of projects that were tendered in renewable auctions held in 2016 and 2017.
To support the initiative 170 professionals from the sector have gathered in Madrid, the Spanish capital, to identify and debate on the elements that are still lacking in order to start moving the country and its islands from 40% renewables to at least 70%.
Sicre said: ”Wind has been the protagonist in the last decade, allowing us to double the renewable generation, with all the economic, industrial and environmental benefits that this has meant for the country.
“The next few years will be key to increasing the contribution of wind power in Spain.”
