Spanish renewables start-up Smartive is trialling fault predicting software for wind turbines called CloudDiagnosis, which could save the wind industry €200m a year.
The cloud-based software system is designed to collate data from wind farms to provide operators with an estimation of the operating condition of turbines.
It uses the data to predict up to 21 days in advance, if vital components are likely to fail or require maintenance.
Smartive said the results of the trials will be presented at the EWEA Analysis of Operating Wind Farms workshop at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre on 14–15 April.
Smartive chief executive officer Jordi Cusidó said: “If you can reduce unexpected outages and plan repairs or corrective maintenance more effectively, it means you can increase the wind farm’s availability – and of course better availability means better profitability.
“We think a 10% improvement in productivity is achievable through such visibility. This would mean an annual increase in turnover for the industry of €15m in Spain, €70m across the EU and €200m worldwide.
Smartive is supported by KIC InnoEnergy.
