SSE Renewables is seeking permission from the Scottish Government to build a 100MW wind farm in the Highlands.
The Bhlaraidh Wind Farm extension would see up to 18 turbines constructed on land to the east of the existing Bhlaraidh Wind Farm development near Invermoriston, southwest of Inverness.
The proposed development would double the capacity of SSE’s onshore wind projects in the area, with its existing 32 turbines at Bhlaraidh Wind Farm already generating 108MW.
The developer submitted a Section 36 application for the project to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consent Unit on Friday.
Research by BiGGAR Economics found the development and construction of the existing Bhlaraidh Wind Farm generated more than £37m in Gross Value Added to the Great Glen economy, SSE said.
Project manager Craig Cunningham said: “Many local businesses benefited from the development and construction of Bhlaraidh Wind Farm – and continue to do so during its operational phase.
“The Bhlaraidh Wind Farm Extension will provide a fresh opportunity for further growth in the local economy.”
He added: “There has never been more urgency in the need to reduce emissions and provide clean, secure energy for future generations.
“Projects such as Bhlaraidh Wind Farm Extension, where much of the necessary infrastructure is already in place, can help to meet that need.”
