The Swedish government is to implement proposals to boost expansion of wind power.
The plans include provision that municipalities where wind farms are built will receive support and this amount will be equivalent to the amount in property taxes levied on arrays.
The Swedish Wind Energy Association has welcomed this development since the role of municipalities in realising the expansion of electricity production is critical.
It is an issue the trade body has been pursuing for over 10 years.
Swedish Wind Energy chief executive Daniel Badman said: “It is also good news that the government is to implement the Incentive Inquiry’s proposal on compensation for local residents.
“The Swedish Wind Energy Association looks forward to a bill with such proposals, which should also contain proposals that make the forms of municipal approval predictable and legally secure.”
He added: “It is also positive that the government has taken a technology-neutral approach within the announced Kraftlyftet Initiative.
“There are many opportunities to meet energy and power needs with existing renewable technology already today – every day, every hour, all year round – at a relatively low cost.”
