Sweden’s wind energy association has called for the Government to create an environment for growth in wind energy and other renewables as part of the country’s new electricity market design.
The Swedish Government has appointed a special investigator, Bo Diczfalusy, to review the design of the electricity market in Sweden.
The investigation will focus on, among other things: high supply security and long-term planning conditions, clarified system responsibility and liquidation of designated electricity contracts.
Swedish Wind Energy welcomed the review and called for the investigation to have a technology-inclusive perspective.
It said that individual technicians have the opportunity to contribute to both delivery security and planning, but development is very fast and today there are great opportunities to combine different technologies, such as solar, wind and batteries, which provide both higher delivery security and can contribute with flexibility and net benefit.
The group added that wind power has the opportunity to expand the fastest and on the largest scale until the year 2035, when many new industries will increase their consumption.
It is therefore important that the design of a new electricity market model provides good conditions for long-term investment conditions for the wind power industry.
Sweden needs to make changes in the legislation for the electricity market due partly to new regulations in the EU, partly as a result of the Tido Agreement. The investigation’s proposal must be presented on 25 April 2025.
