Canadian energy company TransAlta Corporation has unveiled a $2bn clean energy investment plan, including $800m of renewables projects already under construction.
The projects under construction comprise four wind farms located in the US and the Canadian province of Alberta.
TransAlta said the projects are underpinned by long-term power purchase agreements with “highly creditworthy counterparties”.
The company will also convert existing Alberta coal-powered assets to natural gas as part of the plans.
Three plants will be converted in 2020 and 2021, with a further two in late 2023 and 2024, it added.
The Clean Energy Investment Plan will be funded with cash raised earlier this year through a strategic investment with an affiliate of Brookfield Renewable Partners, TransAlta said.
