New construction techniques and materials will result in wind turbine heights of up to 170 metres, according to K2 Management.
The wind power engineering specialist said new technologies, such as modular concrete structures, will see turbine towers higher than the tallest ones today of about 150m.
It said that there has been a 48% increase in heights since 1999 and going up to 170m would boost energy yields by 35% on average, K2 said.
K2 chief executive officer Henrik Stamer said: “170m towers could become common sight in the near future in markets like the USA and Germany as part of a new renewable skyline.
“We expect to see more of these mega designs as we help our clients get the most out of their wind projects.”
