Vestas has received its first order to repower wind farms in the US.
The company said it will provide 29MW of V110-2MW turbine components to enable the future repowering efforts of an undisclosed customer.
The components will be manufactured at Vestas’ Colorado factories and will be delivered from next year.
Repowering aging wind farms with new technology is expected to increase over the coming years, according to the company.
“The scale of technological innovation in our turbines in the last five years has been breathtaking, and has reduced the cost of wind energy by 66%,” Vestas US and Canada sales and service division president Chris Brown said.
