Vattenfall said it is to pursue developing a wind farm in Powys despite withdrawing the up to 122.5MW Mynydd Lluest y Graig project from the planning system.
The Swedish company remains committed to the development of a wind farm at the MLyG site but added it is not yet in a position to set out what the wind farm might look like nor what the forward programme might be.
Vattenfall project manager for MLyG Jonny Hewett said: “Vattenfall remains committed to developing a good, low-cost wind farm at Mynydd Lluest y Graig which benefits the local farmers, the community and regional business.
“However, with recent proposed changes to English and Welsh planning policy for large onshore wind projects the route to consent through National Infrastructure Planning is no longer available, that is why we have withdrawn MLyG from this process.”
Vattenfall had planned to submit a Development Consent Order application for the 25-35 turbine project by summer 2017.
Construction of MLG would have dependent upon a grid connection being provided by Scottish Power Energy Network with a 2km direct link to National Grid’s suspended Mid Wales Connection project.
National Grid shelved the 400kV transmission line following DECC’s refusal last September of all but one of five Powys wind farm comprising the Mid Wales Conjoined Inquiry.
