Vestas lands 42MW German repowering job

Vestas takes home 101MW in Brazil

Vestas has secured a 42MW order from Repowering Wöhrden Poolgesellschaft and Windkraft Looft Persenweg for the Wöhrden repowering project in Germany.

The Danish manufacturer will supply, install and service seven V162-6.0 MW turbines, replacing the 25 legacy turbines currently powering the site located in Schleswig Holstein.

Deliveries at the Wöhrden wind farm are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023, while commissioning is planned for the second quarter of 2023, Vestas said.

This agreement increase the energy output and extend the lifetime of the project site with Vestas’ EnVentus platform while reducing the number of turbines on site, the manufacturer added.

The repowering project will be serviced by Vestas under a long-term 20-year active output management 4000 service agreement to provide power performance certainty and industry expertise throughout the lifetime of the project.

Vestas vice president of sales in Northern and Central Europe Jens Kuck said: “The repowering of the Wöhrden project is an excellent example of repowering projects driving the clean energy transition.

“By moving towards more advanced technology the new project will increase the annual clean energy output dramatically at lower cost and on the same land footprint as before.”

“The V162-6.0 MW is a fantastic fit for projects in Northern Germany with good wind conditions.

“Our team is proud that we can empower the project to continue delivering clean electricity to the grid using best-in-class technology.”

Repowering Wöhrden Poolgesellschaft spokesperson Olaf Nicolaisen and Windkraft Looft Persenweg spokesperson Andreas Thomas said: “We are repowering 25 old wind turbines in this project with many different stakeholders, and therefore we have gone through a decision process lasting several years.

“We are convinced that with Vestas’ V162-6.0 MW we have chosen the best technology for our project and are starting a long partnership with the Vestas team.”
