Vestas is planning to build nacelles for the V150-4.2MW turbine in the Brazilian state of Ceara.
The Danish manufacturer has signed a framework agreement today with the governor of Ceara, Camilo Sobreira de Santana, and will invest €23m in the new production line.
Production of the V150-4.2MW nacelles builds on Vestas’ existing presence in the state, where it manufactured V110-2.0 MW nacelles.
The company said about 200 direct jobs would be created and around 800 indirect positions by the decision.
It will decide over the next few months if the plant will remain in the municipality of Aquiraz – where the company assembled V110-2.0MW units – or another location in Ceara.
Vestas Brazil general manager Rogerio Zampronha said: “Ceara has been like a second home to Vestas in Brazil. Our decision to stay and extend our footprint in the region is based on the high quality labour, the proximity to the Port of Pecem and to many wind energy project areas.
“But I would like to highlight the business-friendly environment fostered by the regional government, which has also been a key factor for this decision.”
