Almost 1GW of wind power leases have been awarded to seven companies at a renewables auction in Spain.
With the allocation of 998MW of wind, the Wind Business Association (AEE) calculates investment of more than €1bn by developers will be needed.
According to Wind Europe, the lowest wind energy bid was awarded at a price of €20/MWh.
The wind bids ranged from €20/MWh to €28.89/MWh.
AEE said the high levels of participation in this auction shows the interest on the part of wind developers in obtaining the remuneration scheme it offers.
It also demonstrates the commitment of the sector to move annually towards the fulfilment of Spain’s energy and climate plan PNIEC via the existence of a stock exchange of mature projects that is large enough to be able to meet those objectives over the coming years.
AEE chief executive Juan Virgilio Marquez said: “The effectiveness of the recent auction should be measured by the ratio of projects actually executed within the allotted timeframe and by the positive impact it generates on the value chain.
“The auction should help balance, channel and control the pace of advancement of each technology to meet the PNIEC.
“Therefore, the sizing of the minimum quotas of each technology and the timetable for the implementation of projects must respect the proportionality that each technology is assigned to comply with the PNIEC.
“In the case of wind, the sector can annually assume larger quotas than the current one.
“The boost to the Spanish wind sector is necessary to contribute to the economic recovery in the coming years.”
