Renewable energy developer Wind2 has unveiled a proposal for a 72MW wind farm in the Ochil Hills in central Scotland.
If approved, the Windburn site will comprise 15 turbines with tip heights of up to 150 metres.
The Wind2 team hopes to submit a planning application in late 2023 and will soon begin the formal process of community consultation.
Based on a capacity of 72MW, £360,000 will be distributed through a dedicated community fund each year, amounting to £10.8m throughout the lifetime of the project.
Project manager at Wind2 Ryan Bissoonauth said: “The proposal for Windburn Wind Farm is at an early stage and over the coming months we’ll be finessing the plans in consultation with the community.
“The project has the potential to generate a significant amount of green energy while enabling people living nearby to benefit.
“We’re exploring schemes like community share ownership and reduced electricity tariffs too.”
The Wind 2 project team will announce its formal community consultation plans in due course.
Formal representations can only be made once a planning application has been submitted to the Energy Consents Unit.
Windburn Wind Farm is part of a joint venture between Wind 2 and companies managed by Octopus Energy Generation.
