Welsh developer Wind2 has filed plans with the Highland Council for the around 38MW Ben Sca wind farm on Skye in Scotland.
The project located near Edibane consists of nine turbines with a maximum tip height of 135 metres.
Wind2 said it is expected that each turbine would be rated at approximately 4.2MW.
Ben Sca has potential to generate around 130,500 megawatt-hours per year, sufficient to meet the needs of around 34,500 UK homes, it added.
The Ben Sca development site is located close to the operational 27.6MW Ben Aketil and 41.1MW Edinbane wind farms.
Wind2 is offering residents within 4km of the site an opportunity to reduce their energy bills either through a contribution or by offering home energy efficiency grants as part of a £5000 per MW community benefit package.
In addition, the company is exploring potential opportunities for the communities around the site to acquire a direct stake of up to 5% in the project.
“We know that we will be able to build and operate this wind farm without any subsidy whilst also reducing the electricity bills of those in the immediate area and delivering other projects of benefit to the community through our proposed community benefit fund,” said Wind2 development director Fraser Mackenzie.
“There was clear feedback from those who attended the exhibitions and from those we spoke to on the doorstep in and around Edinbane that energy costs were a real concern,” he added.
