Energy minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe has officially opened in Somerset the first grid-scale Tesla battery energy storage system to be deployed in Europe.
The 250kW/500kWh lithium-ion system is owned by London developer Camborne Energy Storage and located near a 500kW ground-mounted solar PV farm.
The Tesla Powerpack was installed by EPC Poweri Services.
Neville-Rolfe said: “Innovation in storage technologies will help manage our electricity grid more efficiently, support greater energy security and, crucially, drive down consumer bills.
“Our upcoming industrial strategy will build on this work further, working with businesses to ensure the UK continues to be at the forefront of low-carbon technology, creating the conditions for future success.”
