ENGIE will start building an 80MW/320MWh battery at Drogenbos in Flemish Brabant in March 2026 with completion slated for September 2027.
The project secured a 15-year capacity contract from November 2027 in Elia’s fifth Capacity Remuneration Mechanism auction announced on 30 October 2025.
The Drogenbos scheme will comprise 88 battery modules able to deliver for four hours, equivalent to 64,000 5kWh home batteries or the average daily electricity use of 38,400 households.
It is ENGIE’s third large-scale Belgian storage project after Vilvoorde at 200MW/800MWh and Kallo at 100MW/400MWh, taking the portfolio to 380MW and 1.5GWh.
