Boralex has won planning permission for a 49.9MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development in Scotland, its first such scheme in the UK.
The Highland Council approved the Loch Toftingall Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development in Caithness. It is Boralex’s first consented BESS project in the UK, having already gained development, construction and operation experience of battery storage projects in France and Canada.
Meanwhile Boralex has also won approval from the Welsh government for the Dragon LNG wind farm project in Pembrokeshire.
Acting as project consultants, Boralex delivered consent for three wind turbines at Dragon LNG’s Renewable Energy Park which adjoins their LNG Terminal in Waterston, Wales.
The Dragon LNG Terminal has the capacity to supply up to 10% of the UK’s gas requirements and is a high energy user.
The addition of these wind turbines to Dragon’s existing solar farm will increase on-site renewable energy generation to 47% of their annual electricity consumption and represents a key step in their decarbonisation plans.
