DRI, the EU renewables arm of Ukraine’s DTEK Group, has chosen Fluence to deliver its 133MW Trzebinia battery storage project in southern Poland.
Due online in 2027, the 622MWh facility will be the largest battery storage project in Poland’s capacity market, providing rapid-response reserve to strengthen grid security.
Fluence will supply its Smartstack platform, which features modular design and advanced cybersecurity protections, with components sourced only from allied countries.
The project follows DTEK’s recent commissioning of 200MW of battery capacity in Ukraine, also using Fluence technology, aimed at bolstering resilience after attacks on energy infrastructure.
DRI chief executive Murat Cinar said the project will “contribute to Poland’s energy transition and enhance the grid’s ability to integrate renewable energy sources, while strengthening energy independence for Poland and the EU”.
Fluence managing director for growing markets Julian Jansen said: “Poland has the potential to be one of the five largest European markets by 2030. We look forward to increasing our investment into our Polish operations and our local team.”
Poland’s installed storage capacity is expected to soar from 25MWh at the end of 2024 to over 20GWh by 2030, according to S&P Global.
