DTEK Group and Fluence have energised a Ukrainian battery storage facility with a total capacity of 200MW.
Six systems ranging from 20MW to 50MW each have been connected to the grid in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Together they provide 400MW of storage, enough to supply 600,000 households for two hours.
DTEK said the €125m investment will strengthen grid stability and resilience ahead of winter, while supporting the decentralisation of Ukraine’s energy system. Construction was completed in just six months.
Energy minister Svitlana Grinchuk said: “Every new megawatt of storage acts as a shield for the entire energy system. This means greater security for Ukrainians and fewer risks of emergency power outages.”
DTEK chief executive Maxim Timchenko added: “This is a historic step for the Ukrainian energy system and will shape its development for years to come.”
Fluence chief executive Julian Nebreda said: “This achievement is a beacon of resilience and a symbol of what can be achieved through strong international cooperation.”
