Econergy Renewable Energy has finalised an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) agreement for a 50MW (102 megawatt hour) battery energy storage system in northern England.
The EPC agreement for the energy storage project in Yorkshire was made between Econergy and a consortium consisting of Trina Storage and G2 Energy.
The Swangate project is part of a wider pipeline of storage projects in the UK that Ecoenergy is developing that amounts to nearly 2.6 gigawatt hours.
Econergy is developing its storage projects in two configurations, as co-location projects together with its 900MW solar pipeline, and as stand-alone grid-support storage projects.
Econergy expects its total pipeline of renewable projects in the UK to be operational by 2025.
G2 is a contracting company in the storage market in the UK and Ireland which has been responsible for more than 400 connections to the national electricity grid in the UK with a total capacity of over 3GW.
Trina Storage has over 500MW of connected storage projects.
Eyal Podhorzer, Econergy’s CEO, said: “We are delighted to have secured the EPC agreement with Trina and G2 for our Swangate storage project in the UK.
“This is the first storage project in Econergy’s pipeline which has reached this stage, marking a significant milestone for the company.
“The UK is a key market for Econergy and is leading the development of storage technology globally, which will accelerate the energy transition by mitigating the intermittency of renewables and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.
“This project will help us to become a key player in the UK storage market as we look to continue expanding our portfolio of projects under development in the country.”
Terry Chen, Head of Overseas Storage, Trina Storage said: “We have invested heavily to develop our in-house utility scale LFP battery storage system.
“The Swangate battery project is the first deal featuring our vertically integrated product Elementa in the UK.
“As part of this project, Trina Storage will deliver a fully integrated BESS solution with world-class safety standards and capabilities built into every aspect of system design and delivery. We are very pleased to be working with Econergy and G2 Energy to deliver this project successfully and many more in future.”
