I4B – The Belgian Infrastructure Fund – has confirmed a €30 million investment in one of Belgium’s largest battery energy storage systems, a 600MWh facility in Visé being developed in partnership with Luminus.
The project is designed to stabilise Belgium’s electricity grid, support the integration of more renewable energy, and help meet national and EU decarbonisation targets.
“This flagship BESS project addresses critical energy security and grid balancing challenges,” said André Autrand, CEO of I4B. “It will benefit Belgian households, industry, and the wider economy.”
The battery park will offer grid-balancing services and help manage peaks in supply and demand, while mitigating variability from solar and wind generation.
I4B said the investment underlined its commitment to low-carbon infrastructure and complements its existing portfolio of solar and onshore wind assets.
CIO Samuel de Lhoneux added: “This investment exemplifies our ability to deliver large-scale, impactful projects with leading industry partners. The energy transition demands collaboration, long-term vision, and innovative financing solutions.”
I4B played a lead role in structuring the transaction, drawing on its expertise in financial and contractual frameworks to build a robust partnership with Luminus.
