Invenergy has completed and started commercial operations at an energy storage project in Knoxville, Iowa, for MidAmerican Energy.
The lithium iron phosphate battery-based plant was constructed over a four-month period and is the fifth utility-scale storage facility developed by Invenergy.
It is the first such project where Invenergy was the engineering, procurement, and construction provider.
MidAmerican Energy will use the 4 megawatt-hour plant to store electricity for later use, Invenergy said.
Invenergy senior vice-president responsible for storage development Kris Zadlo said: “We are excited by the new opportunities for battery storage that we are seeing around the country.
“We are grateful for partners like MidAmerican Energy who are seeking innovative ways to deliver value to their customers and are proud to have provided them with this solution in such a short time.”
