Planning consultancy PWA Planning Group has secured a planning permit for a 50MW battery project in Paisley, Scotland.
The company made the application to Renfrewshire Council on behalf of Larkfleet Group.
The batteries will be stored within an existing gasholder frame located on site, which is thought to be the oldest in Scotland and is a Category A listed building.
The development will provide energy balancing services to the National Grid ESO and will contribute towards Scotland’s carbon reduction targets by drawing electricity from the grid at times of low demand, storing in the units and releasing when required.
The Scottish government is aiming for net zero emissions by 2045, ahead of the UK’s target of achieving the same milestone by 2050.
Established in 2005, the Larkfleet Group of companies is a developer of clean energy projects, an investor in sustainability focused research and development (R&D) projects, and a provider of energy-efficiency improvements for new and existing buildings.
