Grid and energy company ABB and clean infrastructure investor SUSI Partners (SUSI) have partnered to promote deployment of energy storage and microgrids.
The Switzerland-headquartered companies have signed a framework agreement where ABB will provide its microgrid technology, known as Ability, and battery energy storage systems.
SUSI will structure and finance the projects through its dedicated Energy Storage Fund, which has a pot of €100 million for clean energy infrastructure.
The global energy transformation brings challenges and opportunities for the power sector.
These including ensuring power availability and managing increasingly complex grids with diverse, distributed energy resources and a high penetration of renewables, according to ABB.
Additionally, industrial and commercial sites are looking for alternatives to optimise costs and minimize carbon emissions.
These trends are creating opportunities for microgrid and energy storage applications. ABB has developed over 40 microgrid installations global for remote communities, islands, utilities and industrial campuses.
SUSI Partners chief investment officer Marco van Daele said: “This partnership with ABB, a renowned and knowledgeable technology partner, broadens SUSI’s investment scope and we expect it to contribute in attracting numerous investment opportunities for the SUSI Energy Storage Fund globally.”
