Trina Storage has signed its first large-scale battery deal in Italy with Aer Soléir for a 250MW/1000MWh project in Rondissone in the Turin area.
The companies said the 1GWh scheme will be one of the largest battery energy storage projects in Italy and Europe and represents a key milestone in their cooperation.
They added that the project was awarded under Italy’s capacity market auction for 2027 deliveries and will support grid reliability, reduce curtailment and back national renewable targets.
Philip King, chief operating officer of Aer Soléir, said: “The team at Aer Soléir is excited to see the Rondissone BESS project reach the major milestone of signing its supply agreement with Trina Storage.”
He added: “Rondissone represents the first construction start in our important Italian portfolio, and we look forward to working alongside valued partners like Trina Storage.”
Trina Storage will supply, deliver and commission its Elementa 2 Pro system including PCS units, medium-voltage skids and a power plant controller, using 228 battery cabinets and 36 integrated PCS and MV skid enclosures.
The company will also provide a 20-year service agreement covering maintenance, spare parts, 24/7 remote support, extended warranty and performance guarantees.
Gabriele Buccini, head of Trina Storage Europe, said: “Italy is one of the most promising markets for energy storage, thanks to the combination of the capacity market, the MACSE programme, and the country’s accelerating renewable deployment.”
Buccini added: “This first 1 GWh project in Rondissone marks the start of our long-term commitment to Italy.”
Trina Storage stated that the deal supports its growing European portfolio, which now exceeds 4GWh of contracted projects.
